I read that you can spray a carved pumpkin with hair spray or clear acrylic spray to help preserve it longer. Has anyone used either of these methods? Just wondering if they really work. Seems odd to use something flammable when there will most likely be a lit candle inside. Thanks for any help.Has anyone used hair spray or clear acrylic spray to preserve a carved pumpkin?
I have used petroleum jelly around exposed areas to prevent cracking and to keep it moist. It does help a bit. I also refrigerated it for a few hours a day and soaked it in the sink in cold water when it starts to shrivel a bit. It helps to put moisture back in it. Also, there is a spray that (they claim) is non flammable called Pumpkin Fresh that is supposed to help preserve it - www.pumpkinfresh.com I have never tried it but it sounds much safer than using something potentially flammable. Good luck and Happy Halloween! :-)
